VPS MODx

MODx is a free open-source content management system that appeared in 2004. Renting a VPS with MODx is a common thing for small and medium-sized websites, online stores, news portals, etc. This CMS has several important features and advantages:

  1. MODx engine allows you to "pull" any HTML templates. On the one hand, it is a huge advantage for professional web designers and developers. On the other hand, it still requires a good knowledge of MODx structure and syntax, and they are significantly different from other CMS.
  2. Allows you to work on two or more sites at once without any restrictions. This is especially useful if you have a grid of resources.
  3. Flexible system does not put almost any restrictions on the configuration of the site, allowing you to be creative and to realize even the most ambitious ideas.
  4. It is convenient to work with multi-lingual sites due to the high-quality localization of the structural elements of the interface.
  5. Allows you to develop sites of any complexity, from landing page to large information portals and online stores with a multi-level catalog structure.
  6. Renting a MODx VPS is extremely advantageous and convenient for the client, because the transfer to a remote server is the most simplified and intuitive.
  7. It is supported by almost all browsers, including mobile ones.
  8. It has a convenient administrator panel.

It is worth noting the high security when renting a VPS with MODx. Rest assured this CMS is equipped with built-in security tools that prevent hacking and virus infection. MODx has official support, which regularly releases updates, including system protection. In case any vulnerabilities appear, they are promptly fixed along with the updates - no other free content management system has such advanced and comprehensive support.

Additionally, a VPS system administrator with MODx can configure protection parameters and initiate checks for critical errors at will. The CMS has built-in tools to monitor system files and check their control packages. After several failed authorization attempts, the system will automatically block the current account - an additional barrier in case an intruder gains physical access to your computer or work laptop. A standard, but very effective protection against bots is provided here with the help of a captcha.

HostZealot offers VPS with MODx for rent: our rates are flexible and you can scale processing power at any time. For more information on topics of interest, leave a request on the company's website - our specialist will contact you for a more detailed consultation.

Your questions, our answers

  • How do I reboot my VPS server?
You can do it by clicking the reboot icon in the Quick Management module (Services->Products/Services->QM)
For other VPS go to Services->Products/Services->View Data->Reboot
You can also use the VNC module there as well.
  • The best OS for a web server
In fact, choosing the best VPS OS is quite easy. The choice depends solely on your goals and your preferred type of software/scripts/management. Windows-based software such as .ASP NET, Virtual Basic and so on require a Windows Server environment, which means that the choice is quite easy. The ability to access files from anywhere in the world using the RDP protocol while remaining within a familiar interface is a great advantage of the Windows environment. However, most tasks are best handled by Linux/FreeBSD based systems due to their higher peak performance, ease of management and better stability. The most popular system for VPS is CentOS (Community Enterprise OS) from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. It is a free OS, compatible with most control panels, various popular software, and regularly updated. We provide several versions of CentOS that are compatible with popular control panels (WHM, DirectAdmin, Virtualmin and ISP Manager). However, since some customers require operating systems such as Fedora, Ubuntu, Debian or FreeBSD, we also provide support for several of the latest versions of these operating systems.
  • VPS CPU load (process monitoring)
The CPU value for an individual process shows how much CPU time the individual process consumed during its allotted clock cycle.
For example. You have 100 processes running, so the CPU will divide the time per unit of time (e.g. one second) among all those processes according to its internal scheduler. If you assume for example that all processes receive equal fractions of time, one process in a second will receive 1/100 of a second (0.01 second), during which it must manage to process its internal task queue.
Therefore, if a process takes 0.005 seconds, it will show up as 50%. If it takes 0.03 seconds you will see 300%. But because other processes usually manage to finish their tasks much faster, these figures are quite acceptable for most systems.
The most important numbers are "load average:" which shows the total CPU load (per minute, 5 minutes and 15 minutes). For a single CPU core the acceptable figure is "1.00", which in this case means that CPU time is 100% allocated (not to be confused with CPU load), respectively for 4 cores the figure would be "4.00". For different systems the load can be considered differently, for you an acceptable load "load average:" can be taken as numbers up to 10-15 (in one minute).
Also indirectly the load of the system can be determined by the delayed execution of commands in the SSH console itself. That is, if you see that commands are processed very slowly (even typing is not going immediately), it is likely that the load is exceeded.
The second important parameter is your memory usage. Using the example of a VPS which is actively using 346 MB of 512 RAM:

    [root@user ~]# free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
    Mem: 1001 994 7 0 4 643
    -/+ buffers/cache: 346 655
    Swap: 2047 0 2047
    [root@user ~]#

You need to be careful that the "used" value does not start to grow larger than the memory allocated to the VPS, as this will cause the Swap memory (which is slower) to be used. In the output of the "top" command, you can see the value of the memory used by each process in the column called "RES" (the columns can be sorted by pressing "O" first, then "q", then "Enter").
  • How do I get additional IP addresses?
You can get up to 5 IPv4 addresses depending on your VPS or Dedicated Server plan. Smaller plans get fewer IPs.
If you have not ordered enough IPs, the server can be upgraded in the Customer Portal or through a Support Ticket.
In case your project requires more than 5 IPv4 per server, please open a ticket to Customer Support and we will try to help you.
