“Universal” processor from Ubitium
15:30, 26.11.2024
Ubitium has announced the development of a unique processor based on the RISC-V architecture. The processor will include functions of FPGA, CPU, DSP processor, and GPU. Unlike existing variants, which are already available on the markets universal processors will not have a specific specialization. Each transistor will be able to perform any task, and there will be no “specialized” cores.
Who is working on this ambitious project?
The company's staff has grown significantly this year, and Ubitium now employs engineers with work experience at Texas Instruments, Intel, PACT XPP, and NVIDIA. The professional team plans to change the current layout of the chip market.
Right now, the industry is focused on the specific delineation of tasks between computing devices. Ubitium intends to change the standard approach and perform functions (DSP, CPU, FPGA, and GPU) in a single chip. According to the company's CEO, this approach is necessary in the AI era.
Support for AI in the new universal processor will significantly affect the opportunities for peripherals. The company representatives also claim that despite the innovativeness of the approach the production/development costs will be lower than standard ones.
It is planned that the release of the new processor will take place in 2026.
