The opening of the first TSMC factory in Arizona is postponed for at least a year
16:23, 19.01.2024
TSMC was planning to start mass-production of 3nm chips this year, by opening two factories in Arizona. However, the launching of the factories has been postponed for at least a year relative to the initial plan, while the second factory will be launched no sooner than 2026 or 2027.
According to TSMC Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mark Liu, this postponement has to do with clients' needs and the financial support of the local authorities. The pace of construction might have been affected by the lack of qualified workers.
Also, according to TSMC executives, TSMC is likely to consider the production of other technologies than 3nm.
