SoftBank Holding plans to use the Sharp plant as a data center. The contract for the purchase of the facilities is scheduled to be signed on March 14, and the deal will be worth about that amount - $676 million.

When are the facilities scheduled to be operational?

There will be enough electricity for the data center if we take a long-term perspective. Construction is pre-planned for 2025, and commissioning will be next year. At the time of commissioning, the capacity will be approximately 150 MW.

The main concept is to commercialize AI agents in Japan. OpenAI plans to bring in GPUs, and in the long run, the company will sell AI agents to suit individual customer needs.

The data center will need about 100,000 processors to operate at full capacity. The holding company has big plans for AI data centers in other cities in Japan as well.

Sharp's losses amount to $2.75, and the sale is a good way to reduce the company's losses.
