StatCounter: Linux is now on more than 4,5% desktop PCs

According to StatCounter, the share of desktop versions of Linux reached 4.5%, 4.56% to be precise in August 2024. Just a year ago this number reached the point of 3%. At this rate, Linux will reach 5% by February 2025.
It took Linux over 3 decades to achieve this result, created in 1991 by Linus Torvalds when he was 21 and was studying in Helsinki University.
The operating system continues to gain importance and popularity, being installed on billions of computers all over the world. It is a major operating system on servers, and is besides that used on a broad variety of devices, from microcontrollers to supercomputers, being the preferred choice for its stability and flexibility.
