On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics announced that it has developed a new memory chip with the highest capacity in the industry as of today. The chip is called HBM3E 12H and is designed to meet the needs of artificial intelligence developers.
Generative AI models do indeed require high-performance memory chips. Such chips allow AI to memorize the details of communication and user preferences to provide the most human-like responses possible.
Artificial intelligence is the main driving force behind the success of chip manufacturers. For example, Nvidia increased its profits by more than 200% due to the high demand for GPUs, which, in particular, are used to improve ChatGPT.
Samsung Electronics, in turn, is the world's largest manufacturer of dynamic memory chips used in computers and smartphones.
HBM3E 12H is a chip with a 12-layer stack and a non-conductive tremocompression, which makes it possible to have a large computing power without increasing the physical perimeter.
Samsung is already producing trial versions of the chips and plans to launch mass production in the first half of 2024.
