NVIDIA Shifts Gears: RTX 50 Series GPUs Now Equipped with SK Hynix GDDR7 Memory

NVIDIA has begun using GDDR7 memory from SK Hynix for its GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs. Previously, Samsung was the primary supplier of these modules, but a recent report from insider @Zed__Wang suggests a change in partnership. The RTX 5070 is the first card confirmed to use SK Hynix memory, and rumors indicate that other models like the RTX 5090, RTX 5080, and RTX 5070 Ti might also adopt the new chips.
No Performance Loss, But Better Availability
The GDDR7 memory from SK Hynix runs at the same 28 Gbps speed as Samsung’s chips, so users won’t notice any performance difference. While overclocking enthusiasts might find slight variations in tweaking potential, the average gamer won’t be affected.
This shift to SK Hynix comes just as the company starts mass-producing GDDR7 memory. The move could help ease the supply shortages that have impacted the RTX 50 series so far. With more suppliers on board, NVIDIA aims to stabilize availability across markets. The upcoming RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 5060 are expected to launch soon, though the latter might face a slight delay in hitting retail shelves.
