Improved Performance and Energy Efficiency for Data Centers
This model will have higher power efficiency and significant performance, which will be a big plus for data centers.
The new SSD is based on the already released 6500 ION. Micron's ION model uses 20W and its speed is maxed out at 12GB/s. The SSD has significant improvements in terms of power efficiency. The use of the PCIe Gen 5 interface contributes to improved performance during workloads.
The company announced the following improvements:
- High random read performance (80% better than competitors) and high read IOPS (99%).
- High read throughput (179%) and sequential read throughput (179%).
- High write throughput (231%) and sequential read throughput (150%).
The 6550 ION will be available in the following formats E1.L, E3.S and U.2. The E3.S in a 1U rack will have 44.2 petabytes of data, and this will have a significant impact on storage density. Moreover, Micron promises that the SSD will last longer percentage-wise by 42% than other 60TB SSDs.
According to the pricing, the company has not announced the price list yet.
The company has also recently introduced new PCIe Gen 6-based drives with sequential read speeds that are 2 times faster than other models.
