On March 18 of this year, Lip-Bu Tan was announced as CEO of Intel. The future CEO has been on the company's board of directors since 2022. He left the board of directors at the end of summer 2024 due to certain disagreements in Intel's development strategy, and because of his new position, he returned to the board again.
Lip-Bu Tan's previous experience
Lip-Bu already had experience as CEO at Cadence Design Systems for 12 years. In his position, he was mainly focused on cultural transformation and innovative approaches that were generally customer-centric.
During his previous CEO position, he also established good relationships with the semiconductor industry. In his speech, Tan emphasized the need for a roadmap for those processes, which may directly relate to keeping Foundry in the company.
Most of the CEOs at Intel had a certain engineering background and education. The only exception was CEO Paul Otellini, who had business experience and led the company in the mid-2000s. Compared to the previous CEOs, Tan is better known as an investment businessman.
Lip-Bu studied at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics. He has a master's degree in nuclear engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master's degree in business administration.
