ARM Is Developing Its GPU to Compete With NVIDIA
14:15, 21.08.2024
ARM, previously known for producing mobile processors, is preparing to release its own gaming graphics card. According to rumors, the company is preparing to compete with NVIDIA.
The Israeli branch of ARM has hired about a hundred engineers to develop processors and software for them. It is expected that the development will be aimed at designing a GPU for consumers, in other words, a gaming GPU; it is possible that the final product could be used to solve AI tasks later.
The company has not confirmed the rumors, so it is difficult to predict whether the GPU will be targeted at gaming PCs or ARM-based systems (laptops, smartphones, etc.), as well as whether it will be a discrete or embedded solution.
From a technical point of view, ARM isn’t new to the GPU field. Previously, the company produced Immortalis and Mali mobile solutions, which are similar in functionality to desktop graphics cards. Nevertheless, there is no technical information about ARM’s GPUs, which indicates that the development is at an early stage.
