In March of this year, Linux 6.8 was released and 2 months later, Linux 6.9 was launched. The new version was announced as scheduled on May 12, 2024.

Linux 6.9 is already available for download and you can test the new version which has 15680 changes. The number of developers who contributed to the fixes is approximately 2106 and the patch size is 54 MB. Almost half of the changes are associated with device drivers, 17 percent are related to code changes, 7 percent are connected to file systems, and 4 percent are correlated with internal subsystems.  

Most of the bugs in the previous version were fixed in Linux 6.9, and there were added new tweaks and updates.

The new version has support for AMD hardware (especially AMD P-State), Intel (Intel FRED and Core Ultra Meteor Lake), and AMD FRU Memory Poison is merged with other developments. 

Linux 6.9 has support for ARM64 Rust, and changes have been made to improve Intel Core support, plus Fastboot is enabled for all generations of graphics cards. In the new version, there is now support for large console fonts on 4K+ displays.

Moreover, the new version has support for RDNA4 in the AMDGPU driver, this update came out because of the collaboration with AMD. In addition, the company is currently working on the Intel Xe DRM graphics driver.

Named Address Spaces feature in GCC has been added to improve data access at CPU level. In the kernel, FUSE passthrough support has been added, which has a significant impact on file maintenance in FUSE, and there is also support for power consumption updates. In version 6.9, support for LZ4 compression has been added, and support for F2FS has been significantly improved.
