A New Kernel - Linux 6.6.6 - Has Been Released
15:32, 12.12.2023
The stable release of Linux kernel 6.6.6 happened on December 11, 2023. The main developer of the project, Greg Kroah-Hartman, recommended that all Linux 6.6 kernel users update to the newer kernel version.
The Linux 6.6.6 kernel is released primarily to fix the Wi-Fi regression problem that accompanied the last update. The new kernel is a solution to a problem that occurred after the implementation of the "wifi: cfg80211: fix CQM for non-range use" patch, which caused regular crashes. Hence, Linux kernel version 6.6.6 includes the removal of the patch, which, in turn, caused network management problems.
In late November 2023, Greg Kroah-Hartman announced that the Linux 6.5 kernel would no longer be supported and recommended that users upgrade to the 6.6 LTS version.
The release of the Linux 6.6.6 kernel is an example of the rapid response to issues in the kernel. The update will help Linux users ensure stable performance of a wireless network.
